Work Work Work

I've been a good girl... work work work, occasionally knitting. Unfortunately, not enough of the latter, though.

This strange looking picture is of some fabric that I just bought today. Doesn't photograph very well due to the metallic in it. It's cotton, very soft, the color pattern is all metallic on a black background. 2 yards and 3 hours and I will have a new uniform top for work. Now, I just have to plan the time.

Since some of my current uniform tops are showing their age, it's time to make some new ones and I have this fabric as well as lots of other really pretty fabric that I have been collecting whenever I pass a fabric section and something catches my eye.

I'm as bad with that as I am with yarn. hehehe Collect collect collect.

Hey, isn't that Friday on the horizon? Hurray!!! I have the whole weekend off and I don't have to be on call! Can we say sewing, knitting and computer time? Of course we can.

I told myself I wasn't gonna....

I told myself I wasn't gonna get hooked into the scarf craze but a co-worker had other ideas. She wanted to learn to knit then decided that, with 5 kids in their teens or pre-teens, she definitely wasn't going to have time to knit, chauffeur, work, do Mommy things and be able to learn to knit so.......good friend that I am, I agreed to make the scarf for her daughter for Christmas.

I must confess that I had fun knitting the scarf since it took me one evening after work. It's Lion Brand Fun Fur and knit up super easy. Very soft, too.

My friend actually bought 2 skeins but the pattern only called for one so I am currently in the process of knitting the second one for her niece.

For grins and giggles, that silly headband on the model head was what my co-workers made me wear for my birthday. heheeh My birthday was the 14th but the party was on the 15th and I actually did wear that bobbly thing most of the day. The patients got a kick out of it, too.

Okay... that's one Mid-Winter present that I have made for one of my friends, 2 scarves for a friend's daughter and niece..... I need to get my act in gear or I'll have nothing else for the holidays! Nope, probably not going to make other gifts this year but I still need to put my thinking cap on so I can have things all nice and settled before the big shopping rush starts.

Isn't Christmas something like only NINE weeks away? eeeeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkk ! ! ! ! !

Knitting Withdrawals ! !

After almost 2 weeks of not knitting to give my wrist a chance to see how it did... well, it actually is feeling better! The rest helped though I do still have intermittent numbness depending on what I'm doing. I guess no more marathon knitting sessions for me unless / until I have something done to fix my wrist. As you can see from the picture, though, I did get a little knitting done. I've finished the arm hole decreases and am just working my way up toward the shoulders.

It's still difficult to get the ribbing to show up. Probably because the yarn is so sparkley and I couldn't use the flash or there would have been too much reflection. It's still a nice yarn even if you can't see the ribbing or how truly sparkley it is. I'm just a magpie at heart... I love sparkley things. Heck, I even have more yarn with sparkles to knit into something... dunno what but it will be something!

I hope that everyone has a little sparkle in their life!

It's definitely Fall here!

It's been raining Monday and again today. Cold, chilly days with grey clouds instead of our usual beautiful blue sky. Some trees have turned gold but they are already losing their leaves.

Yikes, the news just showed Snow at the ski area in Santa Fe. Yup, definitely Fall in New Mexico.

As I have continued to rest my wrist by not knitting, here is another of my Pocket Dragon collection. Clean Hands. I bet that looks rather familiar to many parents... hands are clean but the feet and one ear still have mud on them. heheeh

I do plan on doing some knitting tomorrow. A friend is having day surgery and I'm the chauffeur and companion for the day. Lots of quiet time to knit. I'm looking forward to seeing how the wrist does. Currently, my hand still gets numb intermittently. Less than before but it's still there. ::sigh::

I've had fun reading all the different Secret Pal rings. I didn't think I would have time to be in one of the rings but they sound like so much fun that, if there's a fourth Secret Pal ring started, I will seriously think about joining.

Thank you for the hints about locations to find silk fabric that everyone has sent me. I'm going to check some of them out but I have to admit that I'm lazy; I would love to just be able to buy or have someone make my dress for me. I don't have the creativity to sew the gorgeous dresses so many other women make and embellish with beads and other wonderful things. My forte is knitting. I can do basic sewing but I don't seem to have the Vision that so many SCA women have when it comes to clothing.

Cooler Fall weather = more incentive to do warm knitting!

I Couldn't Resist ! ! !

I was at the Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival and passed this three times. Every time I saw it, I giggled. Finally, I had decided to buy it for myself when Mom asked if I would like for my birthday and I said a big resounding yes. The photographer, Keith Szafranski, has so many other wonderful photographs available. He sells them matted or framed and matted. I got mine just matted as I wanted a different frame for mine.

Snow Happens!

If you would like to see more of his work... both wildlife and other great photos for sale, please visit him at Mostly Wildlife Photos.

Well, the wrist has had rest but it still makes my fingers go numb. Rather aggravating since I enjoy knitting so much. I am seriously thinking of going to the Dr and seeing what he has to say. I've already worn splints and have even tried acupuncture. I guess I'm just a big chicken! cluck cluck cluck

As for my 12th century dress. My wrist shouldn't slow that down. What is slowing it down is finding the silk fabric! ! ! ! ! That is turning into such a pain since I can't use Charmuse or Dupioni since neither are period. I found a site for some silk at a good price but she hasn't replied to my request for samples nor has she responded to any of the other two letters I have sent asking if she received the payment from PayPal.

Does anyone out there know a good source for silk fabric? Spun Silk or Silk Twill? I've been on Denver Fabric and Fabrics.com and Oriental silk co (what I wanted but they only sell it in 32 x 36" pieces and that won't work for a dress), and a few others that I can't remember. HELP!! Please!! hehehehe

Please keep the comments coming! I am like any other blogger; I like to hear from my readers.

Necessary Knitting Break

Yup, decided to take a few days break from knitting to see how my right wrist does. In the mean time......

I was out at a local Arts and Craft show and saw this cute saying on plaques as well as magnets. I couldn't resist since I definitely am no skinny-minnie. I thought you all would enjoy a giggle, too.

Do I Chunky Dunk? You betcha'! But I do it in hot tubs and not in ponds and only with well friends. hehehe

Before taking my, hopefully, short knitting break, I started the arm hole decreases of the purple and silver top. I also ordered and received the extra skein of the yarn that I needed. It's not the same dye lot but, since I'm knitting with two strands, I'm going to knit it with a strand of the original dye lot and that should help it blend better. Plus it will be in the bottom part of the back overlap part of the front of the top... heheeh Clear as mud? It should work out okay, though.

I should have knitting pictures again, once I get back to knitting. I love blogs with pictures, don't you?
