I hope you like the new addition to my blog way over on the right. Another dragon for my collection! I have a mate for that one but I couldn't get the two of them positioned exactly where I wanted them. Hopefully either I will figure it out or a friend with more html knowledge than I have will be able to help.

To keep up with Niece dog pictures, here is Krissi with her favorite toy... a green alligator. She usually carries it around in her mouth and makes little noises so you will look at her and know that she's in her cute mode again.

Tasha is in her "Oh no, she's got the camera out again" Mode. heheeh Nothing like the hangdog look. Actually she is very much a Daddy's Girl and my brother was out of town again, which is why the Niece Dogs were visiting again.

On the knitting front, I've done more on Hovedoen. It just doesn't show up very much yet. I'm faster at two color knitting than at three colors in one row and Dales seem to have areas where you do knit 3 colors in a row.

I'm thinking of adding two new sections to the right of my blog. One will be links to pictures of finished projects and the other will be a list of things To Be Knitted.

Monday is getting closer! Keep up your knitting as everyone needs relaxation.

Another picture of Hovedoen. I've been able to knit yesterday and today and hope to continue knitting so this project will be done and I can start another.

Guess I have a case of start-itis. I like the looks of Tuja but I keep seeing Rogue and wondering about that sweater, too. Claudia is making Rogue as a hooded cardigan instead of a pullover and I really like the looks of it. Check it out on her blog!

Decisions, decisions... a cardigan or a short sleeved sweater... hhuuummmm. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Wednesday, February 25, 2004

I got the call yesterday, that my yarn for Tuja was in! Here it is. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in Raspberry, color number 300614.

I hope that your monitor is able to show the color of this yarn. It's yummy! But then, I've always loved raspberry.... and purple and teal and and and..... heheheheheeh

This yarn is so soft but I've heard that it pills. ::sigh:: I'll just have to see how it works out for me.

So far, once I"m able to get started on this sweater, the one change that I will be making is short sleeves instead of long sleeves. For the most part, I prefer short sleeves so I thought I would give it a try to change the pattern in this manner.

I just need to finish Hovedoen first and I admit to not working on it the last few days. I got the new job and started on Monday! ! ! ! It's definitely a learning experience which is great! The pace can be very fast since the procedures are scheduled every 30 minutes. If a patient arrives late...aarrgghh. zoom. eheheh You have to really rush to get them ready and the Dr's are not happy if they have to wait.

I am knitting tonight and will definitely do more this weekend since there is no SCA Equestrian practice.

I hope your knitting always brings you happiness!

Sunday, February 22, 2004

I have to admit that I didn't knit a stitch this weekend. Saturday was cold and drizzly but we had a short SCA Equestrian practice. Sunday was a beautiful day and a lot more people showed up.

Here's me on Dan again. Typical Quarter horse .... they prefer to walk and trot and canter with their heads down. He is well known as a super gentle "whatever" type horse... whatever you wanna do is fine with him.

Yup, that's my riding helmet that I promised Mom I would wear. Might as well be safety conscious.

Here Fermina on her horse, Whisky, as they are making a pass at the rings. You hold a lance and aim it at the rings... 6 inch, 3 inch or the near impossible 1 inch ring. Not an easy task when you are holding a lance that is not exactly light, controlling your horse and trying to get one of those rings on the lance all while either at a trot or a canter.

In other news, I start my new job on Monday. It's going to be very different since I won't be working 12 hour shifts and I'll have most weekends and most holidays off. Once out of the orientation phase of the job, we have to take 7 days of call a month in addition to our regular work schedule. Where is the new job? In the GI lab of the hospital I've always been working at.

This should give me time to knit a bit after work, too. When I do 12 hour shifts, I was always too tired. No knitting this weekend... well, It's been a long time since I've been on a horse and learning the equestrian games on top of that.... Let's just say that my jacuzzi bathtub feels awfully good at the end of the day. hehehehe

Happy knitting, everyone!

I've had a few requests from friends for pictures of my family. Here they are. My brother (3 years older than me), his wife, their two dogs, Tasha and Krissie, and my 81 year old Mom.

Why am I not in the picture? hehehe I was at work when they arranged for the photographer. My sister in law's family was here for Thanksgiving and she had arranged for a professional photographer to do several different shots of the family. Unfortunately, she forgot that I had to work. ehhehe No problem for me since I hate having my picture taken. I'm getting better now that I'm losing weight so you might see some pictures of me in the future.

On the knitting front, I haven't done that much in the last few days. Was out seeing some of the state again and then had some shopping trips to Tack shops looking at the cost of additional tack to go with my McClellan saddle. I want to change out the western stirrups for the English ones which makes it a closer look of the Artillery Saddle that is the history of the saddle tree that is under all the leather you see. It's a reconditioned saddle but the saddle tree is original. Most likely vintage WW 1 and not the Civil War but it's still old. ehheeh

SCA Equestrian practice tomorrow but it will be interesting since it's supposed to rain. #1 I'll believe the rain when I see it. #2 it will make it colder to ride and it might get a little muddy. I'll try to remember to take my camera again. If any of the pictures turn out, I'll share them here.

As promised, here is the color progress I have made. ::grin:: Not a lot of rows... only 7 rounds got done today but I didn't get to start knitting till around 3:30pm today. I'm enjoying the colorwork but it's going slower than the pattern stitches but it seems to be turning out just fine.

Still no call from my LYS about the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran that I ordered. Thank heavens I'm not in dire need of yarn for a sweater since I actually have yarn and patterns all packaged together for about 3 other sweaters.

When you buy yarn for a specific pattern, to you try to package them together similar to a kit so you can remember what yarn goes with what pattern? I have found that easiest or me though I do have a lot of really nice Country Garden yarn that I purchased as they were closing it out. It's what I made the two gansey sweaters out of and I have plenty more for other sweaters/projects that call for DK weight yarn, just no planned projects yet.

It's almost the weekend! Fun for me since I'll be back at Equestrian practice but it also will mean the end of my nice vacation between jobs. I actually got the job transfer and will start the new job on Monday. I'm excited, nervous and hoping that I don't screw up and that it will actually be a less stressful job than my old one.

Happy knitting!

I promise to have a knitting picture tomorrow. Not a whole lot to show right now but I have a whole whopping 2 color stitches amongst the white of the sweater. Yup, I am now into the color work again. Hopefully, this will allow for more interesting knitting pictures.

In the mean time, this is my most recent purchase. A restored McClellan Calvary Saddle. hehehe Now, I need a horse to put it on.

Do any of you know of any Horse related blogs? I tried to google to some and ask jeeves but neither netted me any workable horse related blogs. :(

Keep those needles moving, everyone! Enjoy your knitting!

Thursday, February 12, 2004

Rather difficult to show you progress pictures when I'm such a slow knitter and I'm still in the pattern stitch of the solid part of the sweater but there it is. :) I now have almost thee full diamonds done and it actually measures 6 inches of the 8 5/8" needed before I can start back in on the color work.

Other progress today... Drooling over the Flora pattern in the Classic Collection from Virtual Yarns in the Glen Colourway and I bought a pair of riding pants with the leather inserts at the knees and, to make my 81 year old Mom happy... a riding helmet. It's nice to have someone worry about you. heheeh Actually I think she is remembering many years ago, I think I was 14, when I got pulled off my horse...was riding double and my friend lost her balance and pulled me off with her. I landed on my head and got a very nasty concussion... unconscious for 6 hours and partial amnesia afterwards. Was out of school for a week. The lesson learned... don't believe your friend when they say they know how to ride and always wear a helmet ::grin::

Happy knitting, everyone!

My Bad...... I haven't knitted this weekend... yet... but I will. Honest!!! Yesterday and today were the first days of our SCA Equestrian practice. This is me on Dan. Still wearing his fluffy winter coat but he's shedding enough to stuff a horse hair sofa right now. He's half Quarter horse and half Arabian.

He's owned by my friend Joe who has him wonderfully trained and I get to ride him for some of the competitions. Amazingly enough, he's the first horse I have ever ridden who actually is trained to voice commands.

Unfortunately, Dan wasn't feeling at his most perky best this weekend as he has a yucky drippy cold so he's off to the vet this week.

Here is another of our riders practicing. Bryndeese is riding Goldie who is full Arabian. You will notice the pole that Bryndeese is carrying. That is used for the ring event where you have to walk, trot, and canter your horse past poles and collect rings... just another of the many SCA Equestrian events.

Okay... I promise to knit... heck, I promised myself after soaking in the jacuzzi that I would have dinner and then knit but I wanted to share some of my weekend with you so you could see that I had a really good excuse to not knit..... now to find the Aloe Vera Jell since I got sunburned..... be warned.... High altitude and cold outside does not mean you will not get a sunburn even when wearing a baseball cap. hehehe

I have had a chance to continue knitting on Hovedoen, as you can see. Not super fast since there are 312 stitches each round but I'm enjoying it and the pattern.

I'm anxiously awaiting my yarn from the LYS, even though I only ordered it on Friday. hehe Debbie Bliss Cashmarino Aran for Tuja. Yup, I have start-itis. Everyone else in the Knit-along are moving right along with their sweaters so I'm going to be super far behind. ::sigh::

While at my LYS, I got to feel the silky wool yarn for some of the Viking patterns... darn, I've forgotten the designer's name, but the yarn is really nice and soft and I love the nice heathery colors. Now, if I only had all the time in the world to knit all the things that I want or were a heck of a lot faster in my knitting.

Today is Hump-Day.... but for me, I get to work Thursday and Friday before having the weekend off. I have no idea what our weather is going to be like but I rather hope that Saturday is a nice day since I'm thinking of making my way out to the SCA equestrian practice. I didn't realize how close the practice area was to my house. Should make for an interesting day.

Another shot of the body of Hovedoen. I rode up to Farmington and back with my friend while he made a delivery... Chatting and knitting while he drives. I hadn't done that since I got this stupid cold so it was rather nice to get out and see the state again. :) Surprisingly enough, there wasn't that much snow north of us even though they were supposed to have gotten more than we did.

On the mention of snow.... we got 2 inches early early Sunday am and have another storm due in tomorrow night that is supposed to be stronger. We can use the snow/rain.... just no ice thankyouverymuch. hehehe We are under drought conditions and have been for several years so every little bit of snow and rain we get is very much needed.

Any way, if you peek at the bottom of the picture you can get a slight view of the picot hem of the body of the sweater.

How the heck do you get all the really great pictures of your sweaters in progress? I'm using a 32" circular for this and I love working on a circular but it's a little difficult to get a nice flat picture of it. Any suggestions????
